learn moreIn 2004, the See Forever Foundation dedicated its second campus, the MAPCS-Evans High School Campus. The campus is located in a District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) facility located east of the Anacostia River in Ward 7 of Washington, D.C. Our DCPS partnership agreement is a critical step toward building a network of high quality alternative options, particularly for disengaged students in the city.

The MAPCS-Evans High School Campus serves approximately 215 students. Most notably, our Evans Campus was recognized on the list of “Catch-Up” high schools on the Challenge Index developed by Washington Post Report Jay Matthews! This list recognizes high schools with large numbers of impoverished students, based on the number of students relative to the number of seniors taking Advanced Placement (AP) courses and tests.

At See Forever/Maya Angelou we know that acquainting students with college standards helps them build academic muscle for college. Through our “AP for all Initiative,” students who have not always excelled academically are improving their reading, writing, and mathematical skills by taking AP courses and the mandatory AP exams. These efforts support increased confidence among our scholars and help to strengthen our school’s overall college-going culture.

Review of School Program

Across the campuses of the Maya Angelou Schools, the instructional program reflects a concerted effort to meet the needs of our unique population of students and to meet the mission and goals of our learning community. Our school program offers small classes, individual instruction, and a wide range of wraparound services that give our students the opportunity to succeed. Tutoring, mentoring, career preparatory programs, enrichment classes, mental health services, residential opportunities, college access and transition support, as well as “real-world” authentic learning experiences help our students set and meet high expectations.
